Here is how to: The story behind the shot

When's It Due
by
I had to wait to see the shot as I don't process film, so a week later, having the roll put on CD I saw it for the first time. I cropped it square as it felt much stronger, but mainly to get rid of a dog on one of those extendible leads who walked into shot.
This is a shot I will not get tired of looking at, it fills me up
This was shot on film, with a Minolta Dynax 500 with a 28-105mm lens, as to the settings I can't remember.
I found out a few weeks later that the baby, Susan, was born on the 4th., the day I posted the shot.
There's something so wonderful about pregnant women, they do bloom & glow, and these two most certainly did that day, in the summer sun.

Fly fly away...

The simplest explanation is that you can wait and wait with a background ready for a subject, but its when you're not even looking that elements merge and produce moments. If its captured or not is another story. I was lucky to have been on my game that day.
What camera did you use? What settings?
Nikon D300, 50mm F2, 1/1250 - ISO 400
What made you take this shot?
I was actually heading in the other direction, but I missed the crosswalk light by two seconds, and took off down the other side of the street. I don't usually shoot from side to side of the street, but for this shot, it was necessary to at least step into traffic a little bit.
Where were you?
Seymour street in Vancouver. Not an overly busy street, but many interesting scenes.
What was happening around you?
It was a really surreal moment. I don't have many memories of shooting moments like that, but the whole thing with not planning on being there, really just made the world stop as I saw the scene. I remember it vividly, it was a fraction of the second but it still feels like it was much longer.
How did you feel when you saw your shot?
I didn't need to see the shot to feel it. I try not to chimp (one of the reasons I shoot analogue now) but I knew the second I took it that I was happy with it. I probably looked at it without a second thought on the bus ride home, but I like re-experiencing the image later on.

Showdown At The Bus Station
by
I was at the Dubai Metro Station in Al Satwa, when I noticed the two parked buses.
I wasn't really sure as to why I was so intrigued by the two public transport vehicles in front of me, until I glanced upon those buildings in the background.
Maybe I had subconsciously 'framed the scene' and the processed information had only just started uploading into my brain - I don't know....
Anyway, just as I'm about to reach for my trusty Canon PowerShot SX100 IS - 8MP Compact Camera, these two gentlemen show up. Good grief!
So I raised my camera hoping the Street Gods are still watching over me because this had to be timed just right as there is no second chance, and I took the shot!
Of course it wasn't quite so easy. You see, I always keep my camera on Auto mode, so I had to quickly tilt it up and down to get the exposure right. But that wasn't too difficult.
The toughest part however, was me trying to hold my camera steady because I was really excited and just couldn't stop laughing!

Stam even had the same set of questions in the note he sent me, almost exactly like the one you had sent days before.
I was under the impression that this was a joint project or something. Weird!
