Stamatis, this is a powerful collection of images. Can you imagine a global project with thousands of photos making its way around the world in the most prestigious galleries and museums? I witness people walking right past the less fortunate among us without ever even noticing. If they were presented with the art and paid for the privilege to view it, perhaps they could begin to really SEE the subjects. I envision an elevation of awareness masquerading as a massive fund raiser.

It's a brave and great thing that you do by bringing this issue back to everyone's attention. As "creative" photographers we seek the most interesting and beautiful subjects to display to our peers, but sometimes we need to be reminded that there is a darker world out there that similarly needs our consideration.

Thankfully there are lots of charities in the world seeking to ease the suffering of those in poverty and although giving money is considered an easy option for those of us not on the front line, every little helps.

Last July I took part in a sponsored event called Three Peaks that required the participants to climb the UK's three highest mountains in 3 days. The charity that all the sponsorship went to is called the Railway Children, a worldwide organisation that contacts and cares for abandoned/orphaned/homeless children sheltering at railway stations. It's incredible how widespread this is. This event alone raised over £240K; one team raised £28K by themselves!!!

There is massive satisfaction to be had in knowing your efforts are going towards helping homeless children, even if you don't see them yourselves, but lest we forget that there are people still in dire straits we should still remember and do what we can to help. However little we can.

bravo..
you have care for those people, your work making me both sad and glad.
Sad, because even though we show to the world how much we care, poverty is still there to fight, and increasing their number..
Happy, because there are people like you, to show that poverty is around us, and we can't act like those people doesn't exist..
Once again, bravo..
we have one thing in commons, you have my will, my heart, to act, to campaign against poverty and people who use their power to take advantage of them..
Humanity need salvation, and it must be right now

Stamatis, this is a great post and you have a big heart my friend :aww:
I have always said that I would never be rich because I am notorious for giving
my excesses to the less fortunate.
I have always dreamed of having millions of dollars only to turn around and give it
all away to those who have none =)
I guess I'm a bit of a philanthropist ;)
I think I would focus most of it on food & medicine, besides...all these people have left is their
health in most cases and what good is the quality of life is you are to spend it in constant suffering?
"Truly an excellent post and a reminder of how good things really are for me even when I think they are bad."

~Thank you mucho!

Good to see other people also care about the poor and helpless around us. I'm glad in my environment there are hardly any homeless people. Most are helped out quite fast.. I do however try to help the ones that need attention. :)

I really hope your enviroment remains as it is with hardly any homeless people. Athens didn't use to have homeless people and I was shocked 20 years ago when I saw the first homeless in London. Now Athens has many homeless too...

Perhaps it is because I live in a small town, not really close to the larger cities where homeless people are a common sight. Hope it stays this way indeed, that would be a good thing..

I'm so glad these were posted, they're so eye-opening.
This past summer I went to Peru to help and play with the young boys at a street boy refuge center for a few weeks, and it was the most heartbreaking, eye opening experience I've had. Their stories of poverty and life on the streets are horrible. The pictures above make me feel so blessed.

this is so sad. I can't even bare to look at these pictures anymore. but everyone has to realize that this is real. I think people don't realize what they have should be treasured instead of being taken for granted. The littlest things that you might take for granted is somebody elses luxury: water, refridgerator, shower, food. It's so sad to see this. I've always wanted to help. This christmas season I will

down the street from where I live...there are two very wonderful men who, by Lifes Circles found themselves homeless.
My family and I are hurting ourselves financially...my husband was injured seriously in july and hasnt worked since and Im disabled....God proivdes for us and we are still in our home with food and water

daily I take food to them...and I gather them provisions as fast and as much as I can...

it is by Gods hands that I am fed and we are our Brothers keepers...by blessing we are blessed..

i agree with *StamatisGR...I hope your generation can handle what is left to them..I am sorry..
the thing is, homeless people are NOT the only face of poverty..Families that work 40 hour weeks, have kids to feed and bills to pay that even if they worked day and night wouldn't be able to keep up..they are the face of poverty also..No health insurance, no food in the fridge even though you work your butt off..
it sucks..I hope things change..

well, then.., i don't think, i lived with it:D And once, i lived among them.
I'm a journalist and an artist. I teach them what i have known.
I have teach airbrush to many of street kid, and it work alright,
many of them work as airbrush artist on modification workshop, or as mural artist at advertising agency.
Started seven years ago back in my home town, Kediri.
So to give them opportunity is better than to think about but not to act about... ;)

what you do is far more important and valuable, than just giving them some money! You give them the opportunity to gain some money for themselves!
The point is, that giving some money or food, is a very temporary help.
What we should do, if we can of course, is to help poor people make a small income out of their own hands...I am glad I met you here, Alfa :)

I defiantely will be favoriting these pictures. They're clearly the work of talented artists, and if I don't favorite them, people won't see them. I hope when people see these randomly pop up in my favorites part on my page, cause I have it so it puts up two random deviations, that these do just what you said.

We need to help end poverty. I couldn't agree more with you. ^_^ As a citizen of the country I live in, it is not only good for me to help, but it is unjust for me not to! Any excess is shameful. We have so much and some people have so little.

Some people say we can't do anything... and of course that's wrong. Some say there's no point because you can't save them all, but to the ones who are helped.... I'm sure they're grateful. Besides, what is us giving up a little money and comfort to see people get what they need to survive? ^_^

I never give money to the beggars. Instead, I ask them if they want me to buy the food. There were some times when I bought a loaf of bread to one of them and he threw it to a thrash can when he thought I wasn't looking... But some of the times people are happy with the food instead of money :)

Can we do anything about it? There are so many people who slip in their lives, choose the wrong path, finally fall and never rise..... Though the system make their life even worse. We are always so busy with our little problems..... Still I'm not sure what I can do to help. I give but it's such a short term help...

Good for you Stamati  I do admire you. You are full of new ideas and works. Bravo!
